In spite of the fact that Shipwreck Beach was closed due to landslides, we had an absolutely FABULOUS time on this excursion. Sue was an awesome guide, and we had so much fun. A bit of a haul to get to the boat, but worth it! They arranged for our pick up at the harbor as we came in on a yacht. AWESOME!!! This is a definite must-do on Zakynthos!
I went to Zakynthos for this very beach! The tour guide who's name I forgot was GREAT!! So great, that she helped me get on another tour when visiting Kefalonia. She has different tours everyday and her Kefalonia tour was already full. But she saw me at the pier and helped me get on someone's else tour. Suggestion If you can, rent a car and drive the coast of Zakynthos, and make sure to visit Shipwreck lookout. It is so beautiful. As for Shipwreck beach, make sure to wear water shoes. The beach is nothing but rocks and pebbles. The water is absolutely beautiful.
This is an excellent tour of Navagio which is a must-see if visiting Zakythnos. The water here is unlike anything I've ever seen. Our tour guide Sue was fabulous-- extremely knowledgeable, funny, and approachable. The boat ride can be a bit choppy, and the bus takes many winding turns, so if you are prone to motion sickness, definitely take some medicine before the trip. Also, water sneakers/shoes were invaluable since the beach is made up of limestone pebbles and is rough to walk on as you go to and from the boat. Also, flip flops were falling off of people's feet and being taken away with the waves. Bring a towel and enjoy the once in a lifetime views. Lunch at the galaxy taverna was also very nice-- prompt and friendly service. Lovely setting to end the day.
Me and my boyfriend visted shipwreck during our stay in Zante. I've booked through Viator before, so trusted the site and reviews. We got picked up from our hotel in a small minibus which was confirmed the day before so was very helpful for us to get to the main office where you all get on a coach for the journey. The drive was lovely, through lots of small pretty towns to start with and then through the hills nearer the end. The driver was very good considering the steep roads and sharp turns! The guide Sue was brilliant, so friendly and knowledgeable. Chatted on the way about the towns we passed and about Zante itself which was nice to find more out. Took about 40 minutes to get to the small, beautiful port where we got on a glass bottom boat owned by a lovely couple. From there we went along the coastline slightly choppy to the shipwreck bay. When we arrived the boat pulled up to the beach to allow us to walk down the ladder straight onto the beach. The beach is limestone so not very comfortable to walk on bare foot, flip flops are fine as long as they quite thick ones! The beach was beautiful, the limestone makes the water so blue as you get closer. We stayed for around an hour and 10 minutes, took some photos, had a paddle and a relax on the beach. Remember to take a towel because as I said not the most comfortable beach. We then got taken back on the boat and went back along the coast where we got shown a few caves and even drove into one to have a look and get some nice photos. Then we went back to the port and coach was a little walk up the steep hill back. We then drove to Galaxy Taverna which is pointed out on the way. This place is amazing! The staff came straight out to everyone's individual tables really quick, took your orders fast as well knowing you were on an excursion and needed to get going. The staff were lovely and a good selection of food for everyone. Prices were good and food was delicious, I recommend the prawns on grill!
The coach picked us up on time at our hotel and was arranged fairly effortlessly. They will email you the day before confirming the pick up time. Sue was an amazing friendly tour guide and told us a lot of local information on the ride. If I had known she offered a turtle excursion as well I would have rearranged my schedule. Navagio beach is a must do while in Zakynthos and travelling there with Sue was a 5 experience. They stop off at a nice Taverna as well which was tasty food and good service. Definitely recommend this tour!
Great experience! I booked this excursion as the image of the Shipwreck Beach had been haunting me for the last years. While surfing on the internet for a day trip to the famous beach, I found Viator option which ended up being the best option: transfers from the hotel to the departure point and back to the hotel included, reservation process easily accessible, great service provided by both bus driver and our guide sorry, I don't recall her name, but she's a great asset to the agency providing the trip.
The bus, the boat and the crew were all great. I recommend water shoes for the beach. The pebbles can be large and painful on even the toughest feet.
