This was an outstanding experience. The boat ride, along with the audible narrative, was very enlightening. This excursion was well worth the money.
We really enjoyed the 1.5 hr. cruise to/from Mount Vernon. The narrator was had to hear at times due to a noisy child. It was a beautiful day. They offered a nice breakfast buffet on offer. there was adequate time to spend at Mount Vernon. The actual tour of the home was a bit crowded (too many in each group to really see the rooms) but was fine overall.
The boat ride was beautiful. We did not buy the buffet, but it looked very good. We wish we had had a couple of hours more on the grounds--boat ride was 1.5 delightful miles each way, which left less time to see sights away from mansion than we'd have liked. Lovely. (We are 80 and 95 years old.)
The departure was on time and pleasant. The commentary was easy to listen to and clear. I sat on the top deck and the weather was perfect. We arrived at the beach side of the house and took the bus to the house so that we could tour. The house was impressive; the the most memorable thing I saw was the refurbishing of the exterior. THis is done every 40 years and is fascinating. I spent time touring the smaller out buildings. I ate lunch at the food court: toasted cheese sandwich and soda. It was good and reasonably priced. Then went to the distillery to purchase whiskey for a friend. Now it iwas time to return to DC on the boat. I wish we had been told to go to the street entry to get the education information before touring the house. I ran out of time to do this. I would have had a much more rewarding experience then. I would have liked to know about the re-enactments which were going on while I was there----I saw 2 but I know there were more. I tried to learn what my trip included, but never got a clear answer with a schedule. This would have been helpful. I did enjoy my trip and would recommend it ----nice boat trip to an impressive and well preserved site.
Brilliant, unfortunate that our trip coincided with school groups. I'm an ex school worker so used to kids, but sadly these were loud and rude, slightly ruined the trip...overall when not surrounded by the hundreds of school groups we had a great time .
This was nice...getting out of DC and seeing Mount Vernon was well worth the price of this tour. Mount Vernon in itself felt like a vacation from DC, not that I don't like DC, it's just that sometimes you need to mix things up during your trip. The reasonably priced (all you can eat) breakfast on the boat really saved my day, since I did not have anytime to eat breakfast prior to leaving my hotel. Thank you!!!
Had a wonderful time with family of six on visiting Mount Vernon and seeing how George Washington lived. We enjoyed a very good breakfast on the boat ride for DC Mt V.
This was a fun way to visit Mt Vernon. The Spirit of Mt Vernon was very comfortable and offered a wide variety of beverages and food. We enjoyed learning about the sites along the way and had plenty of time to explore Mt Vernon.
It was bitter cold out and the place was packed with 7000 school kids. Other than waiting in line and freezing, it was an interesting tour.
it was very relaxed and comfortable tour. boat cruise was very nice and tour was perfect length for seniors to child.
Relaxing cruising down the Potomac. Very efficient in getting there. After hiking mount Vernon during the day. Able to relax on cruise back with treats and drinks available. AWESOME
Captain Andrew and his crew were wonderful. They made the trip to and from Mount Vernon a pleasure! I recommend sitting inside if you can so it will be easier to hear the commentary. Mount Vernon was beautiful and a nice addition to our DC visit.
really worthwhile trip - great way to get to see some of the countryside outside of the city of Washington. Mount Vernon itself is a very interesting place to visit. Everything about this experience was easy and the staff were terrific.
