A propos de cette activités
Starting from Vilnius the tour will take you to the north of Lithuania where you will find Siauliai and the famous Hill of Crosses. Siauliai is the fourth largest city in Lithuania.
During the drive through the center, there will be a chance to see the famous Frenkel Villa, Church of St.Peter and Paul and meet the Millenium Fox and Golden Archer of the Sundial. Moreover, you will hear about one of the oldest confectionery factories in Lithuania and will even have a chance to buy some tasty souvenirs to take back home.
The famous Hill of Crosses will be your next stop, where the Pope John Paul II held the most highly attended mass in our country – during his visit to Lithuania in 1993. This old mound from the days of the crusaders has been decorated with thousands of crosses in every imaginable size and form. This has always been, as it is now, a place of pilgrimage. Today a veritable sea of crosses – hundreds of thousands of them – serves as a monument to Lithuanians’ devotion to their religion. You will learn about the cross making craft - one of the most unique Lithuanian crafts, included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
After the visit in the Hill of Crosses, it is possible to stop for lunch in a traditional restaurant before making your way back to the capital city, Vilnius.

There were only four of us on the tour. We had some language issues since the driver did not speak English and there was no tour guide. We listened to an English narration on the way to the Hill of Crosses. The narration was not specifically about the Hill but about Lithuania in general. We did not stop at Siauliai as specified in the tour explanation. After a delicious lunch at a countryside restaurant which cost about 6 Euro per person, we stopped at the Kleboniškiai village museum and Kleboniškiai village windmill. In fact, I enjoyed this part of the tour more than the Hill of Crosses. Overall, we enjoyed the tour left at 9AM, returned at 6PM, but I would recommend a few changes. -the tour title and description should be changed since we did not visit Siauliai -we had to pay 4 Euro/person for the village museum. This should be specified in the tour description. The woman collecting the money did not speak English, so we had no choice but to pay. Strangely, locals who came after us did not seem to be paying the entrance fee. -the village museum had no English brochures or on-site English explanation. I would have loved to have a simple leaflet in English. With minor changes, I think that this would be a great tour especially for the more independent travelers who prefer to explore on their own. Finally, in spite of the language issues, our service-oriented driver made sure that we were comfortable during the tour.
