Stop At: Tulsi Manas Temple, Varanasi India

Built-in 1964 the Tulsi Manas Mandir is one of the most famous temples in Varanasi. It is made up of white marble and the beautiful garden adds to its attractiveness. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rama of the epic Ramayana. The temple has beautiful images of Lord Rama, Mother Sita, Lakshman and Lord Hanuman. The walls of this temple are adorned with verses from Ramcharitmanas, the Hindi version of the epic Ramayana. There is a museum on the premises which has a rare collection of manuscripts of the Ramayana and other artifacts. It is located about 7 km from the Varanasi railway station and 2 km from the BHU Varanasi.

Sarnath, 10km from Varanasi, is one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage centers. After attaining the Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, it was here that Lord Buddha preached his first sermon, sanctified as Maha Dharm Chakra Pravartan. The great Dhamekh Stupa and several other structures stand testimony to the importance the place enjoyed at that time. The Chaukhandi Stupa is the place where, during his first visit to Sarnath, Lord Buddha met his first five disciples. The area is a treasure trove of archaeological findings such as Dharmrajika Stupa and Mulgandhkuti Vihar. The most striking aspect of Bharat Mata Temple is that instead of gods and goddesses, the temple houses a relief map of undivided India, carved out of marble.
