A propos de cette activités
You driver will pick you up from a previously agreed location in central Split at 8am. Climb into the luxurious air-conditioned minivan and travel approximately two hours through the Dalmatian hinterlands into Herzegovina. Arrive in Mostar at approximately 10am, where a local guide will meet you for your walking tour of Herzegovina's cultural capital.
Head to the Old Bazaar, which sells paintings, copper and bronze carvings, and pomegranates – the natural symbol of Herzegovina. Perhaps pick up some local handicrafts before continuing to Karadjoz-bey Mosque, built by the Turkish architect Kodza Mimar Sinan in 1557. With its big dome and high minaret, Karadjoz-bey is the biggest mosque in Herzegovina, as well as one of the most beautiful.
As you walk, your guide will explain about the significance of Mostar and its place in Herzegovinan history. Stroll to the Old Bridge (Stari Most) which crosses the Neretva River. Built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, the bridge is considered one of the most exemplary pieces of Islamic architecture in the Balkans. Watch professional – and brave – jumpers dive into the cold water of the river below.
When you get hungry, let you guide know and they will arrange lunch for you in a local restaurant (own cost), where you can taste traditional local foods such as cevapi, a grilled dish of minced mat, burek – pastries filled with spiced ground beef or potatoes – or baklava, a sweet treat made from pastry, honey, and nuts.
In the afternoon, enjoy some leisure time to explore more of this beautiful city before your driver takes you onwards to Medjugorje, a 30-minute journey away. Here the walking tour continues. Visit St. James Church, built on the site where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared in 1981. Relax in this spiritual place, and take a stroll towards Apparition Hill.
Afterwards, your driver will take you back to your hotel or another destination in central Split, arriving at approximately 6pm. It is possible to customize the itinerary of this tour to suit your needs if you want to visit a nearby city or stop at another attraction.
