Departure was from a central point in Sofia near the Cathedral, and slightly delayed to wait for a guest who never turned up. The coach was very comfortable: reclining seats, aircon, USB points, and WiFi. There were 18 in our party which was very manageable. Plovdiv was 1 90 minute drive, so it was odd that we stopped at a MacDonalds for 20 minutes after only a hour. The structure of the rest of the day was fine: a leisurely walk through the old part of Plovdiv, an 90 minute lunch break and then a drive to a picturesque small village with free time to wander etc. HOWEVER, our guide, Chris, whilst polite and helpful throughout, and with good English, often simply talked for the sake of talking, and instead of giving us a true insight into the region and history, felt it necessary to concentrate on many inconsequential aspects, repeat himself and make unfunny, repetitive remarks about "whiskey time" and "let's rock and roll" and his time working overseas. He needs to structure and modify his talk: it became rather boring an somewhat boorish. Otherwise, a well-organised and enjoyable trip, and fair value for money, but one which could have been much more rewarding.
Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable - she gave a great insight into Bulgarian traditions and we enjoyed trying the local food, dance and language!! It was interesting to experience another side of Sofia.
This tour was great! My husband and I loved it! Kathy was a great, energetic tour guide who interacted with her guests and answered every question no matter how silly. We got to learn a lot about Bulgarian history and culture and try tasty things! Thanks!
