Meet your expert local guide in downtown Playa del Carmen and get whisked off to a non-touristy part of town to begin the eating and shopping extravaganza. Chat with the colorful owners and chefs of taquerias and restaurants as servers set out local delicacies in front of you. For those who are not culinary daredevils, snack on favorites like cochinita pibil, a slow-roasted pork dish that is native to the region and is said to date as far back as Mayan times; pozole, tamales Oaxaqueños (steamed masa wrapped in banana leaves) Marquesitas ( a delicious local made dessert) or local made Ice cream.

After filling up on excellent local fare, it’s tequila time. Drink a sampling of Mexico’s favorite spirit at a local

tequileria while learning the interesting history of tequila from your guide. If the spirit moves you, so to speak, feel free to shop for bottles to take home — there are over 200 varieties for sale. Tour participants even get a discount.

After the Tequila tasting you are all done and are right at 5ta Avenida, also known as Fifth Avenue, the city’s main shopping street, for some serious shopping. Browse local fashions and pick up a souvenir or two to remind you of your fun evening.

Fun food tour of Playa Del Carmen. Do this on your first day so you can get familiar with the area. We made 6 stops and had plenty to sample...taco, tamales, drinks, gelato, and Marquesitas a crepe with nutella and cheese-strange combination but very delicious. We had a group of 9 and had to taxi back to a set location. We went in 3 different taxis. When we arrived, we waited at the designated place and almost gave up on ever seeing the group again but finally the tour guide, David, showed up with his group...a small blip in the tour but it all turned out ok! Pricey but fun!

Food tour was good and our tour guide David was awesome. Really enjoyed the food and seeing more of Playa than we normally have in previous trips. Feel price charged was more than it should have been but trip was still good
