Debra was the best. Extremely knowledgeable and shared many personal stories that enhanced the experience.
Guide's instructions not clear. Not enough personal time. Sites w ere very interesting. Most enjoyable day.
Excellent Tour of the above mentioned places. Phil who was our tour guide and had a wealth of knowledge and kept the group very well informed. He was very pleasant, immaculately dressed and very professional. I have travelled widely and joined many tours but never met a tour guide as Phil who has in depth information. Our driver Tom was a careful driver and very pleasant. Happy to recommend the tour, Phil and Tom as well.
Nigel gave excellent commentary all along the way. We saw additional things and enjoyed the tour. Each place was awesome
Start with easy boarding at the coach station. Chrissy, our guide, was clear and full of interesting things to say along the route as well as once we got to our sights. And her voice was so lovey to listen to! She prepared us well for what we would be seeing at doing at each stop, and I felt we had the right amount of time to do our tours and have some free time to amble. I was concerned about being with such a large group, but everything worked fine. Our lunch stop was ok, about what you would expect from a place that can handle a bus load of guests at a time. I would definitely consider Evan Evans’ tours on future trips.
David our tour guide was wonder and very patient. He kept everyone together and was very informative too. We liked his commentary. Michael was also a wonderful bus driver.
My husband and I had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our visits to Leeds Castle, Canterbury Cathedral and Dover. The tour was well-planned, with just enough time at each stop to see the sights and experience the local ambience. The bus ride was great -- comfortable seats, easy viewing from windows. Special thanks to our guide Chrissy, who provided helpful commentary in both English and Japanese for this mixed-language tour. An excellent day trip -- highly recommended!
the tour guide is very knowledge and enthusiasm. She resolved the problem for the lady who booked the entrance of Canterbury Cathedral too late. I and my husband enjoyed the tour much. highly recommended to whoever gets tired of the city view.
While it was a somewhat long trip to all 3 sites (comfortable bus), it was very enjoyable. For the money and time, this is a highly rated opportunity. Leeds Castle is the most picturesque that we saw while in the greater London are, primarily because of being set in isolation not surrounded by other buildings detracting from its beauty. Cliffs of Dover was not that significant, BUT, having heard and read about them, we can now say we were there. Canterbury was great and historical with many nice shops and eateries. Both Leeds Castle and Canterbury are easily tours by themselves. Overall, very enjoyable and well with the money and time.
Much more a bus ride with minor commentary then a comprehensive guided tour. Evan Evans tours are typically hit or miss. We spend quite a bit of Money on these tours and the most commentary we heard was the bus driver spewing anger at other vehicles and pedestrians. Once off the bus it was a brief tour then “on your own.” I could have just rented a car and did this on our own. I think our tour guide was great, but he is just following a bad plan and script
This was a wonderful trip and the tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Very worth the time and money.
I've taken day trips with via Viator before when I've been abroad which have been great, and had never really thought about doing it at home in the UK, but with a bunch of annual leave to use up I thought I would to visit places I wouldn't normally go. This was a really well organised trip. I did go mid-week outside of school holidays, which I think helped as both Leeds Castle and Canterbury would probably have been heaving in the holidays and at weekends, but in my case they were really quiet. Not the tour company's fault at all, but there is some major restoration work on Canterbury cathedral at present (which I was actually already aware of), so large parts of the exterior are covered in scaffolding). The attractions were great. I would have liked more time to explore Canterbury itself, so it's worth Evan Evans considering adding an extra half an hour onto the tour (I don't think you'd want to deduct time elsewhere). I did some extra exploring opting to go for lunch on the go, as it was. The company the tour was with was called Evan Evans. A few minor frustrations included communication at Victoria coach station as to where and when the bus would be departing. I speak fluent English and am used to travelling from the coach station, but if I was a tourist, I would have been confused. The coach was advertised as having wifi but didn't. Whilst I don't think this was essential at all to my enjoyment, if something is advertised it should be there. The biggest bug-bearer was there being no toilet on the coach, which is a real problem, especially as there was lots of driving through London and the M20 is notorious for hold ups. I have given this four stars however, because the trip itself was excellent, and as for the tour guide Chrissy, all I can say is WOW!!! I've been on tours before where the drive to the first attraction is where I sit back and listen to my music, because it's a case of nothingness, but Chrissy was full of fascinating information about London and it's history (which is the main reason why we drove through London). I've lived in London most of my life, but kept hearing things which were new to me. She also mentioned things which were relevant to where we were going, such as the Chaucer Tales. Motorways can be dull, but again she was able to point out relevant places of interest along the way. She was absolutely brilliant. I'm booked on to another trip with Evan Evans so I really I hope I get her again!!
Chrissy was very knowledgeable and share this knowledge in a very positive, exciting manner. The mention that this goes through Canterbury should be clarified to clearly state that it is just a drive by.
Generally speaking the trip is good. The Canterbury Cathedral, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, is very gorgeous and surprisingly you can find some modern decoration inside. The guide Andy Jackson is very knowledgeable. However, the cathedral tour is not a guided one as stated in the description found in Viator web site.
Enjoyed the tour. Guide OK, though could have done more guiding on way back. No music on bus. Loved the music provided by Thunderbush tours in Edinburgh, but none available on this Canterbury tour.
Don't eat lunch at where they suggest in Canterbury! The food was absolutely horrible! Otherwise this was an excellent tour! Leeds Castle is amazing!!!!!! The bus is comfortable but no bathroom on board!
Our guide for the day was okay, but not the best. On the drive we passed, I assume, many points of interest and he didn't point out much. Literally not much in Dover. Canterbury was a big disappointment. It's in bad disrepair and us undergoing renovation so most of the interior and exterior is covered with construction materials. If the tour information had said something about that, I would have picked something else to do that day.
Overall nice way to spend a day out and great way to check a few sights off your list in a day. Really enjoyed leeds castle, lacked a bit of information from our guide before we headed in on the best way to spend our time here though. Cliffs of Dover was nothing spectacular but nice enough to say you saw them. Then on to Canterbury, after this trip I still don't feel I could say I've been to Canterbury, I can say I've been to the cathedral though, which was stunning. Would have loved even an extra 1/2hr to wonder the streets of Canterbury a bit more. My best advice if you're looking to do this trip is to skip the 'recommended' lunch spot, its overpriced and not very good and arrange to meet the guide at the cathedral. Wonder the streets and on the way find somewhere nicer to eat it won't be hard and see a bit more of Canterbury. Overall lovely tour guide and bus driver.
