The trip worked out well with the coach showing up right on time at the prescribed location. Seems like we had a larger group then they were generally used to, and though we had a number of 'stragglers' at each location (that did not show up on time when they were supposed to be back at the bus), the tour guide and driver still ensured that we had the requisite amount of time at each location (we got back a bit late, but would rather have been returning late than have the time cut short). The weather was lousy in London but opened up to sunny skies with a lot of wind at the castle and the cliffs. Views were great and again had ample time to see everything we wanted to see at Dover Castle, White Cliffs, and Canterbury (including a quick bite to eat at the Castle as well as a tour of the underground hospital as well as another quick bite in Canterbury). Just be prepared for a LOT of walking up and down a lot of hilly terrain on this tour - we felt bad for the older folks in walkers or that were not as ambulatory that were huffing and puffing. My apple watch ways we walked up 32 flights of stairs and over 15,000 steps on this tour. If you can keep up, you won't be disappointed. Would recommend that the operator consider a shuttle for those that are less able to walk to allow them to get to the accessible locations on the tour.
Enjoyable experience, Guide could have had more information about some of the towns and scenes we passed before getting to Dover.
Our driver showed up on time and was professional and friendly. We were a rather small group - only about 17 in total - which was great because it didn't feel as unwieldy as large bus tours sometimes can. We drove straight to Dover where our guide greeted us and informed the group that we would have to turn around and drive back to Canterbury as the church was only open for viewing certain hours on Sunday (which makes sense). This unfortunately meant that we wasted about half an hour driving back in the direction we'd come from. Once we got there the site itself was beautiful, even if it was under construction. We went from there to Dover Castle which was unexpectedly interesting, and from there we took a short drive to be able to walk along the cliffs. As noted in the title of my review, the sites themselves were great and worth the trip. The guide on the other hand did not seem to have a strong grasp of the history of the sites we visited beyond what a brief Wikipedia article might mention. I'm not knocking Wikipedia - it's just that we assumed our guide would know more than the general info. When people in the group tried to ask questions she would respond "No, no, no, no, no, no - that is not right" but would have no idea what the correct answer was. The overall attitude was very off putting to me and - I got the sense - to others as we eventually stopped asking any questions. When I looked up the information on my phone I found that she was incorrect a number of times in saying something was not right (when the Romans came to Canterbury and when they built the surrounding wall, who the Black Prince was, when Dover Castle was built, etc.). The trip would have been perfectly fine without the guide in this instance.
Overall this was a good trip. Pickups were very easy and the tour guide was very funny and informative. You wont be disappointed. My only complaint is that we spent a little too much time at the castle at Dover. Would have been nice to spend more time at the cliffs and be able to hike them.
This was a nice day trip to see the history of Canterbury Dover with some free time to do your own exploring. The driver and guide were very nice and helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Dover and Canterbury. Christina was very knowledgeable and personable. We enjoyed exploring Dover Castle and the walk along the cliffs. It was a beautiful clear day so we were able to see France. Explored Canterbury Cathedral and had a nice meal on our own time.
As the tour guide, Manon did an outstanding job. She provided a most informative and at times entertaining narrative through out our entire tour.We also had plenty of time to explore the sights on our own. Steve was our excellent driver, who was always on time and easy to locate. We had good traffic, on our return to London. We definitely recommend this tour and can’t imagine there’s a better trip out there. Thank you Manon and Steve for a great tour!
We joined a group of approx. 15 people on a very comfortable coach bus and set off first for Canterbury with our guide, Richard. We had plenty of time to explore the town on our own after a brief tour of the Cathedral with Richard. We then moved on to Dover Castle, where we were free to tour the grounds on our own. Last but not least we drove a short distance to the White Cliffs of Dover, again with free time to explore. Richard was great - good information, easy-going, and approachable. My husband and I really appreciated the opportunity to explore on our own those sights that interested us most and to pack in as much as possible. Others chose to spend their time more leisurely, enjoying lunch in Canterbury. All good!
Our tour guide was awesome!
