Dolenjska Wine and Traditional Food Full Day Trip

This unique tour is the best way to discover traditional region and wines of Dolenjska – one of three main wine regions of Slovenia. The region has excellent natural conditions for growing wine. It's gently rolling hills, with vineyards on sunny southern slopes and small wine cellars are a sight to see. And people of the region are renowned for their hospitality and excellent traditional cuisine.



For beginning of the tour in Sentrupert you will be greeted with a welcome drink of homemade spirit or liqueur, typical of Dolenjska region and enjoy a unique of winetasting of local winegrowers wines. At the same time you will explore “Land of the hayracks” – a unique open-air museum dedicated to the unique heritage of traditional Slovenian hayracks in a beautiful Slovenian countryside. A special lunch will await us at a country inn renowned for its long tradition. They will prepare a range of local traditional dishes as our grandmothers did and the lunch will be accompanied by a glass of Cvicek wine. Cvicek is a relatively light wine with alcohol level below 10% . Its characteristic acidity makes it perfect for almost any occasion. It goes great with traditional hearty Slovenian food. It will be a feast for your taste buds!



Then there is Cvicek – a curiosity on its own. A special wine made only in this region and nowhere else in the world! The secret of this truly unique wine is in blending various reds with white varieties and besides Chianti it is the only wine made from a blend of red and white wine grapes. It has an attractive, light red color with a slight ruby cast, and fresh fruity aromas. It is produced by a complex process where a mixture of different varieties of grapes are added together to create the final product.



Afternoon highlight of the day awaits you. At an old country homestead you will be greeted in traditional Dolenjska way – with an invitation to the old wine cellar for the wine tasting. You will get to taste 3 main ingredients of Cvicek and a glass of Cvicek wine grown by one of the Cvicek Consortium members. You will also enjoy a snack of buckwheat bread with walnuts and home-made cheese. On top of everything you will see a multimedia presentation 'Story of Cvicek'.

Returning back to Ljubljana we’ll make a short stop at Otočec – a romantic castle on an island in the middle of the river Krka. Here you can enjoy a casual stroll along the river banks or simply take time for a nice cup of tea or coffee.
