Wadowice - Home Town of Pope Saint John Paul II

Wadowice is best known for being the birthplace of Pope John Paul II.

After graduation he left Wadowice to study at university in Kraków.

Pope John Paul II. His real name was Karol Wojtyla and he was born on May 18, 1920. Here he grew up, went to school and lived the greatest tragedies of his life - the death of his mother and brother Edmund, and here finally matured in him the decision to choose the path of life.

Tourists can visit the home of Karol Wojtyla, now it's a museum there.

On 16th October 1978 Karol Wojtyła was elected pope and adopted the name of John Paul II.

Pope visited Wadowice three times, in 1979, 1991 and in 1999.
