We took this tour during the week of Tet. If you are not Vietnamese, I would suggest taking this tour at any other time of year besides February and March. There were thousands of rural Vietnamese making their annual pilgrimage to Perfume Pagoda when we went. Our group was a mix of local people from the countryside and 6 of us from other countries. The guide spoke basic English but it was difficult for us as there was much more emphasis on the local group. Our guide left us to ourselves for three hours in the afternoon telling us to meet at a central point at 4 pm- so we did not get much information/history, etc. The lunch that was served was in a large dining room, serving dishes put out on the table but no plates so we were not exactly sure how to eat it. I am certain that the time of year was very instrumental in this experience. Seeing the cave where those making the pilgrimage with gifts was very neat so I have very mixed emotions about this experience.
Need excellent hiking boots
