As you make your way through the winding stone streets of the medina, you’ll pass historic sites like the Quaraouiyine Mosque, founded in 859 by Fatima Al-Fihri along with the world’s oldest continuously operating university. You’ll see the elegant Nejjarine Fountain and the Batha Palace, now a museum of arts and culture, with its peaceful Andalusian garden.

Take a peek at the dye pits of the pungent Chaouwara Tanneries. Continue with a visit to Souk Attarine, where you’ll find pyramids of colorful spices, Berber carpets, leather goods, and other treats like homemade orange blossom water. Visit Bab Boujloud, a massive triple-arched city gate decorated with geometric motifs in blue tile.
