A propos de cette activités
The Choral Music Tour takes small groups into the homes of choir duos and trios in the city, two nights a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
South Africa has a rich choral tradition. The most famous choral group is probably the Soweto Gospel Choir, who tour all over the world, sharing the evocative harmonies of our choral tradition.
The tour explores this tradition through two intimate concerts. Part one is dinner and a home concert, and part two is a nightcap in the home of a second choir group.
Two of the core groups we work with are Treasured Voices, a blind gospel trio from Mfuleni, and the Guguletu Gospel Stars, from Guguletu.
The tour takes place on a scheduled basis, two nights a week, in small groups of up to 12 people. The dinner session is about 90 minutes, the nightcap around 60 minutes. There is a bit of distance to be covered: around 35 minutes from the city to the 1st home, 20 minutes from the 1st to the 2nd home, and another 35 minutes from the final home back to the city, for a tour of about 4 hours.
All dietary needs are catered to. We don't serve pork or shellfish, but we cannot be totally Halaal or Kosher. We can cater for vegetarians and vegans, gluten intolerant etc.

This tour was exceptional! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I met the tour guide at a hotel in downtown Cape Town. After introductions and a drink we were off in a van to the former township of Mitchell's Plain - about a 25 minute drive. During the drive we were told of the roots of choral music in Cape Town and specifically among the Cape Colored cultural group. At our first house we were met by the owners who had prepared a delicious meal Cape Malay dishes for us. During the meal we were told more about the roots of the music we would soon be hearing. After dinner the quartet of musicians arrived -- the Young Ideas. The quartet was comprised of a father and his three sons. The music was incredible and included traditional tunes, adaptations of popular tunes and selections written by members of the quartet. They performed for over an hour and I enjoyed every minute of it. From our first home we were driven to a second home in another township. The performers were waiting for us and consisted of two young men -- a music teacher and his protégé. Over the next hour they performed solos and duets -- from traditional Xhosa songs to classical Handel pieces. Their only accompaniment: on occasion a tambourine, or snapping fingers. Their voices were amazing -- especially the bass of the younger man. This night is one I will remember fondly. I highly recommend tour!! What an amazing evening I experienced! I encourage
Brilliant! This tour provides you with an outstanding evening. It is an opportunity to enjoy some warm hospitality where you are received as an honored guest. Don't miss this chance to enjoy great music and food presented just for you by performers and their families who obviously love welcoming people into the homes. Memorable and unforgettable. An absolute must if you want a real welcome in Cape Town.
