Day 3 - Day trip to Bran Castle
Breakfast
We'll make our first stop at Sinaia, a picturesque mountainous region not far from the capital. Here, we will visit the formal summer residence of the Romanian royal family, Peles Castle. The castle was built by combining several architectural styles such as Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque, and it is a true architectural gem.
Afterward, we will visit the Sinaia Monastery, where we'll get a glimpse of the Easter-Orthodox religion. We will then visit the Bran Castle, one of the most famous castles in the world, also known as Dracula’s Castle. Built starting with 1211 under the architectural guidance of Johaness Schultz and Karel Lima, Bran Castle or Dracula Castle was finalized in 1377. It is placed strategically atop a 60-meter cliff and it is towering over the most important access route into Transylvania. The first document that mentions Bran Castle dates from the 14th century when Sigismund of Luxemburg used it as a military base.
We continue with Brasov, a popular destination in Romania among the tourists. The city was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 and it exudes a distinct medieval ambiance. Walking through the Council Square, we will reach the Old Town Hall situated right in the center, and afterward, we will visit the Black Church, the biggest religious building of its kind between Vienna and Istanbul.
