Small-Group Jinshanling Great Wall Hiking Bus Tour
Your English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby in Beijing city centre between 5:30 am and 7:30 am depending on other customer’s hotel pick-up. The exact time will be informed by your guide a day before the tour starts, normally after 6:00 pm, by a phone call to your hotel.
You will arrive to the Great Wall at around 10:00 am to start your hike of the east section of Jinshanling Great Wall. This section of the Wall was first built during the Ming Dynasty by the famous general, Xu Da. Later, Qi Jiguang led a number of defense works while guarding the north area in 1567.
The hike is about 6 km and takes about 3 hours. This section is relatively less crowded than the other famous sections of Badaling and Mutianyu, and it offers unique features and looks.
After enjoying a traditional Chinese cuisine lunch in a local restaurant, return to downtown and drop-off at one of the following 3 places:
1. Subway station of Dongzhimen
2. North openning of Wangfujing walking street
3. Mcdonald's restaurant of Qianmen

This tour was amazing!
I will start by saying that it's definitely worth seeing this section of the wall. Although it is still very crowded, it is less crowded than other sections. My rating of 2 stars, has more to do with the logistics of this tour. We were not provided our hotel pickup time of 5:50 AM until 10:30PM the night before the tour. We were picked up in a small van which made 2 more stops to pickup people and then were transferred to a large bus. The bus then made 2 more stops where our guide left for 20-30 minutes without letting us know what was going or the length of each stop. The entire tour bus was completely full by the time we left Beijing. After about a 1.5 hour drive, we arrived at 1 destination where several passengers left the bus and we were told to remain no the bus. Our guide again left for 30 minutes while us remaining passengers wondered when he was coming back as there was no communication. Once the guide returned, he proceeded to go into history of The Great Wall with the remaining group there were 29 total in this small group tour. It was an English tour and our guide's English was very difficult to understand which was made worse due to him speaking very quickly. We had several people who spoke English as a second language and they kept asking him to speak slower. We arrived at the wall and after a brief review of the map, we were sent to hike by ourselves with a final destination point to meet at. After the hike, we boarded the bus and went to have lunch which was very good. After getting back on the bus, we were stopped at a police checkpoint where the guide and driver left the bus and kept coming back for paperwork. This lasted 30 minutes with no communication from the guide and no AC on the hot bus. Once released, we had to go back to the first drop off point and pickup more passengers before proceeding back to Beijing. Total tour time was closer to 13 hours, not 8 as advertised. I would pay more money for better transportation.
