Stop At: Eastern Royal Tombs of the Qing Dynasty, Northwest of Zunhua, Zunhua 064200 China
Your friendly English-speaking driver will pick you up at your centrally located Beijing hotel in the early morning and head up to the Eastern Qing Tombs (roughly 2.5 hours drive).
The Eastern Qing Tombs, located 125 kilometers northwest of Beijing, are among the finest and largest extant Mausoleum complexes in China. Altogether 5 emperors (Shunzhi, Kangxi, Qianlong, Xianfeng, and Tongzhi), 15 empresses, 136 imperial concubines, 3 princes, and 2 princesses of the Qing Dynasty were buried here. Surrounded by Changrui Mountain, Jinxing Mountain, Huanghua Mountain, and Yingfei Daoyang Mountain, the Tombs take up a total of 80 sq km of space.
The Tombs are the final resting place of the three rulers who did the most to preserve the historic treasures of Beijing that people can see today: Emperor Kangxi (1654-1722), his grandson Emperor Qianlong (1711-99), and Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1908), whose lives spanned that of China's last dynasty, are all buried in splendid underground palaces at this site.
Afterwards, you will be driving back to your Beijing hotel after the Eastern Qing Tombs visit.
